Sunset Beach Lifeguard Fundraiser:
Op Shop Ball
A fundraising event, everyone loves the Op Shop Ball! Scheduled to be held on Saturday, the 13th of May 2023, mark it in your diary for a super fun night. As usual, the big night will be held at the Port Waikato Community Hub. So get set for the event to see a live band performance and make room for some awesome kai as supper will be served. Tickets are priced at $50 as donation to the amazing Sunset Beach Lifeguards who keep our beautiful beach-lovers safe!
Heels & Reels Ladies’ Fishing Competition
Organised by the Port Waikato Fishing Club, this special ladies’ fishing competition is held for all you women anglers! Involving a prize-distribution ceremony – including the ‘Mystery Weight Prize’ – you’ll find that this lovely event along the Waikato River has a uniquely Port Waikato vibe and verve!
Art @ the Port Festival
To be held on Easter Sunday the 8th of April 2023, the Art @ the Port Festival will see exhibits of art & handicrafts created by local artists and craftspeople. Our amazing local artists will gather for this event which is to be held at the Tuakau Bridge-Port Waikato Road. As always, you can expect the art festival to showcase a diverse assortment of art & craft items. Local artisans and craftspeople set up this wonderful display across stalls and gazebos in the paddocks.
Kids’ Fishing Competition
Another Port Waikato event marked by a classic ‘sun and sea’ spirit, the Kids’ Fishing Competition promises a great day out for your little ones and their whānau. With a prize promised to all ticket-holders, get your tāmariki involved in this special competition. We like to start them young, so signs ups are open to young anglers aged under 5 to 14 years. Rest assured, they have a good shot with three categories available.
The Kids’ fishing competition categories include:
- ‘Juniors’ (under 5);
- ‘Intermediate’ (5-10 years); and
- ‘Senior’ (11-14 years).
Annual Easter Kahawai Classic Fishing Competition
Fun and fishing go together at the Annual Easter Kahawai Classic Fishing Competition! Get in to win the first prize of $1000 for the heaviest Kahawai! Furthermore, there are prizes for snapper, trevally, and the heaviest other fish! This event lets you indulge in your favourite pastime and get awarded for it! Held by the Port Waikato Fishing Club, the competition is open to all from grown-ups to kids. Remember, ticket holders can even win an ‘Early Bird Ticket Prize’ for the earliest ticket buyers!

Twilight Market
A free-entry event, come down to the Port Waikato Twilight Market. This is a funfair where you can eat & drink, enjoy music, shop for local crafts, or just wander about with friends and family! Held by the Port Waikato Holiday Park, this frolicsome fete takes place in the afternoon, culminating at twilight! When you’re staying up the road, it’s easy to make a night of it!
